The California Healthy Kids Parent Survey is an opportunity for you to help your child's school by sharing your opinions about it. If you have more than one child at a specific school, please think about the oldest of these children as you answer the questions. All unclaimed Lost and Found items, such as jackets and lunch pails, will be spread out on the 1st - 5th grade lunch tables from 7:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. on Friday, February 9th. Students, parents, and guardians are encouraged to check these unclaimed jackets and lunch pails if they are missing an item. All unclaimed Lost and Found items will be washed and donated to a local charity by Student Council.

Families that are thinking about or planning to enroll at Palisades for the 2018-19 school year are invited to attend a school tour with principal Curt Visca during one of the following dates at 8:00 a.m.: Thursday, February 8th; Tuesday, February 13th; Thursday, March 8th; Thursday, April 12th; or Thursday, May 3rd. All participants are asked to check in at the front office to obtain a visitor’s pass. Parents, guardians, and children are invited. Mr. Visca will take families through classrooms and around the school. Each tour lasts approximately 30 to 45 minutes. The Palisades PTA has the following fun activities planned to support Blue Ribbon Week, which reminds students to be kind and to be a buddy and not a bully.
 

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5 - Students are invited to write kind words on the “Waves of Kindness” banner during recess.


TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 6 - “Give Bullying the Blues" and wear blue clothing today!


WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7 - "Stand Up to Bullying" and wear crazy socks!


THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8 - Students are invited to paint rocks during lunch recess and they will be placed in the school's garden by the multipurpose room. Why? Because “Kindness Rocks!”


FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9 - Every day is “Be Kind Day” at Palisades, but February 9th is our official “Be Kind Day” for Blue Ribbon Week. Students are encouraged to say kind words throughout the school day and at home with their family and friends. San Clemente High School students from the Cool 2 Be Kind Club will also have informative assemblies for students on February 9th.

LAS RAMBLAS PROJECT - Palisades parents and guardians have an opportunity to share their views publicly and in writing on how funds from the Las Ramblas Project in San Juan Capistrano at Camino Las Ramblas and Avenida California could fund significant repairs and upgrades at Palisades School, such as permanent air conditioning. If approved, CUSD staff would be able to turn the Las Ramblas property over to a developer and use the proceeds to invest in our local schools, including Palisades. There has been significant community engagement to gain buy-in from the neighborhood of this property. Click here to review the Las Ramblas Project Report.

 

FACILITIES CONDITION ASSESSMENT - A Facilities Condition Assessment was recently completed for Palisades and the report showed that our school currently needs several million dollars just to address safety, deterioration, and infrastructure. Click here to review the report.

 

HOW TO SHOW YOUR SUPPORT - Palisades parents and guardians can show their support for the Las Ramblas Project and having potential funds go to Palisades School by e-mailing or sending letters to the San Juan Capistrano City Council (32400 Paseo Adelanto, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675) and/or by attending the next San Juan Capistrano City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 6th at 5:00 p.m. at 32400 Paseo Adelanto in San Juan Capistrano. There’s power in numbers and having at least 30 Palisades parents and guardians in attendance at the San Juan Capistrano City Council Meeting on February 6th will have a big impact! Principal Curt Visca, PTA President Christine Blanchard, and other parents plan to speak at the San Juan Capistrano City Council Meeting on February 6th. No need to speak, just show up and show your Wave support at the San Juan Capistrano City Council Meeting!

All Palisades families are invited to attend Family Movie Night on Friday, January 26th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Palisades multipurpose room. The recently released movie Dream Big: Engineering Our World will be shown and then families will do a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activity together. The movie and STEM activity are free. The 4th Grade Parent Committee will be selling food and drinks to support 4th grade programs.

The Palisades PTA and Shorecliffs Middle School PTA are sponsoring a free parent/guardian workshop titled “Parenting in the Digital World” on Monday, January 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Palisades multipurpose room. Cyber expert and Orange County Sheriff Clayton Cranford will share everything you need to know about Internet safety for your child.

The Palisades PTA Holiday Shop will be open from Monday, December 18 through Thursday, December 21 during 1st - 5th grade recess and after school in room 36. Students can purchase a variety of gifts for their family members in the Holiday Shop. Most items cost $1 to $5.

Below are traffic and safety reminders if you drop off your child before school and/or pick up your child after school.

 

Avoid double parking or stopping in the middle of the street to drop off and/or pick up, especially on Via Gomez since this street tends to have heavy traffic before and after school due to the crosswalk at the corner of Via Gomez and Via Sacramento.

 

If you tend to use Via Gomez for drop off and/or pick up, please use other streets whenever possible before and after school, such as Via Espinoza, Via San Juan, and Via Sacramento.

 

Only park in designated areas along the side streets around Palisades School and respect our neighbors by not blocking driveways in the neighborhood.

 

Vehicles that are stopped or parked illegally may be ticketed by law enforcement.

Palisades parents and guardians are invited to attend the next School Site Council meeting on Thursday, December 7th from 2:20 p.m. to approximately 3:20 p.m. District staff have been invited to discuss school safety and facility needs at Palisades, such as fencing in front of the school, security cameras, and permanent air conditioning.
 

CUSD’s Facilities Department conducted a Facilities Condition Assessment, known as the Kitchell Report, at all the CUSD sites. This assessment lists the current condition of all sites, including Palisades School. These assessments bring to light the current facilities and funding needs at each site.

Known as "Movember," the wearing of mustaches brings awareness to leading a healthy lifestyle and bringing awareness to health issues, such as cancer. WINTER WONDERLAND DANCES - The PTA sponsored Winter Wonderland Me & My Guy Dance will be held on Friday, December 1st and the Winter Wonderland Me & My Gal Dance will be held on Friday, December 8th from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Palisades multipurpose room. Everyone is invited to dress up (collared shirts, ties, nice dresses, etc.), but no need to buy new clothing.
 

ME & MY GUY DANCE - The Me & My Guy Dance is intended for each girl to invite their father, grandfather, uncle, family member, etc. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
 

ME & MY GAL DANCE - The Me & My Gal Dance is intended for each boy to invite their mother, grandmother, aunt, family member, etc. All students must be accompanied by an adult.  
 

DJ, PHOTOS & FOOD - A DJ will be playing fun tunes! Each dance is free and includes complimentary photos all night in the fun photo booth! Food and drinks can be purchased to support 5th-grade activities.
 

BOUTONNIERES & CORSAGES - If you would like to order a boutonniere and/or corsage, they must be pre-ordered by Wednesday, November 29th for the Me & My Guy Dance and by Wednesday, December 6th for the Me & My Gal Dance. The cost is $5. Make checks payable to “Palisades PTA.” Pick up pre-ordered boutonnieres and corsages at the dance. All funds support 4th-grade activities. CUSD students do not have school on Friday, November 10th due to Veterans Day.
 

Veterans Day is an official United States public holiday, observed annually on November 11th, that honors military veterans, those who served in the United States Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard). Since November 11th is a Saturday, we take the closest school day off, which is Friday, November 10th. Many Palisades parents, family members, and friends are currently serving or served in the military. We thank you for your service and sacrifices.

The CUSD Early Childhood Programs Department is doing a survey for interested families with preschoolers or potential future preschool children regarding the preschool needs of the district to determine the addition of preschool services or increased hours of operation at the elementary sites. DATE & TIMES OF TRUNK OR TREAT - Boo! Stop by Palisades School from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27th to have a “ghoulish” time at Trunk or Treat! This is a super fun and free kid-friendly PTA sponsored event! There will be 20 decorated car trunks on the upper area blacktop that will be filled with candy and healthy snacks.

 

CANDY & HEALTHY SNACK DONATIONS - All candy and healthy snack donations, such as small boxes of raisins and small bags of pretzels, are due by Wednesday, October 25th. The class that donates the most candy and healthy snacks by weight will receive a pizza party during lunch on Friday, October 27th! Smaller new toys and items, such as fidget spinners, will also be given to students during Trunk or Treat!


COSTUMES - All children and adults are invited to wear a non-scary costume to Trunk or Treat!


ACTIVITIES - There will be a "Thriller" dance program at 5:00 p.m. and a Costume Parade/Costume Contest at 5:30 p.m. Trunk or Treating will begin at 6:30 p.m.


FOOD & DRINKS - The Fifth Grade Parent Committee will be selling pasta dinners and drinks during Trunk or Treat to help fund 5th grade Science Camp.

Most schools have a non-profit Foundation that works in unison with the PTA, School Site Council, and other site organizations. Palisades does not have a Foundation. If Palisades had a Foundation, such as the “Palisades Wave Foundation,” additional events and activities could be organized to raise funds to support the students at Palisades, such as an off-site “adults only” Casino Night to raise funds for 5th grade Science Camp or technology.
 

Below are various links on how to begin the process of formatting a Foundation at Palisades. This process must go through parents/guardians that are interested and willing to take the time to apply with the State to have a Foundation at Palisades.

All Palisades students are invited to enter the 2017-18 Palisades Yearbook Cover Contest! Entries must be on 8.5-inch by 11-inch paper, in a portrait (vertical) position, and have the following text:
 

Palisades Elementary
"Home of the Waves"
2017-18 Yearbook

 

Make sure to be creative and use bright colors! The child's name, grade, and teacher's name must be written in pencil on the back of each entry.
 

All entries are due to the front office by Friday, December 1st at 3:00 p.m.
 

Entries will be judged by the Palisades staff. The student with the most votes will have his/her artwork on the yearbook cover and other students with the top votes will have their artwork on the back of the yearbook.
